September 2026 Monthly Update
The next monthly meeting of the Jersey Shore Prostate Cancer Support Group is on Thursday, September 17th at 7:00 pm in-person or online at the Monmouth County Library, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan, NJ.

For anyone who has been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer it is important to have a PSMA PET/CT before selecting a treatment option. Over the past 2 - 3 years insurance has been paying for PET/CT for staging the disease. Staging is the process of finding out how far a disease has spread and the severity of the condition in the body when it is first diagnosed. It helps to determine the most appropriate treatment options.
As an example pertaining to a recent member of the group:
November 2025 PSA 8.0 MRI PI-RADS 2/4 Gleason 6
June 2026 PSA 15.6 MRI PI-RADS 2/4 Gleason 8 (PSA doubling in 8 months)
July 2026 PSMA PET/CT Cancer metastasized to the bone
Currently on Lupron and Nubeqa (Darolutamide)
Without the PET/CT, this member would have been a candidate for surgery or radiation which would have failed because the cancer had already metastasized.

The 8th Annual New York City Prostate Cancer Summit is taking place on Sunday, September 20th, 2026, from 10:30 am-2:00 pm.
Prostate cancer experts from Weill Cornell Medicine, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center are coming together for this annual program to share the latest prostate cancer updates with patients, families and caregivers.
Topics at this year’s event include: the role of exercise, immunotherapy and other up and coming areas of prostate cancer treatment, navigating education and support resources, and much more! The 2026 NYC Prostate Cancer Summit will feature multidisciplinary clinicians and team members from medical oncology, radiation oncology, urology, nutrition, and more. There will also be smaller group lunch discussions featuring a wide range of care team experts.
